パーク内に点在する巨石は17基。山桜の会の定例登山では16基まで巡るAコースと、16基目の石からさらに1時間20分ほどの位置にある17基を目指すBコースがある。
登山道入口から足を踏み入れてすぐに、本格登山である。
自然のままの地形を生かした登山道は、足場がごつごつした石だったり、樹木の根が複雑に地表を覆っているところも多く、杖やストックが欠かせない。
Aコース1基目の巨石は、形が神様の頭に似ていることから名づけられたという「神頭石（じとうせき）」。
下田山の巨石群は地元で石神群と呼ばれ、神様として崇められている石が多いのも特徴。この山に来た人たちの交通安全の守護神として、
2基目に「道祖神石（この地の方言で「さやのかみいし」）」、
3基目に石神様が航海に使用したといわれる「御舟石（みふねいし）」、
6基目には天地万物をつくったという「造化大明神（ぞうかだいみょうじん）」がある。造化大明神は、同じ大和町にある「與止日女神社（よどひめじんじゃ）」で祀られている與止日女のご神体として存在。中は洞窟になっていてお参りでき、通り抜けることもできる。
巨石巡りコースは標高約200～400mのアップダウンのあるコースで、そのほとんどが豊かな緑に覆われているが、とても眺望のいい巨石もあるので必見。
8基目の「誕生石」は、この石からすべての動物が生まれたと伝わる神聖な石で、石の上から一気に視界が開ける。空中に浮いているかのような巨石は、先端へ進むのにおそるおそるでしたが、目に飛び込んできた山里の風景はとてものどか。平和を感じるいい眺め。
10基目の「烏帽子石（えぼしいし）」は巨石パークのシンボル的な石。平安時代の貴族がかぶった帽子に似ていることから名づけられ、8mほどの高さがある。
11基目の「御座石（ございし）」も特徴的な形の石。きれいな長方形をなし、悟りを開くための場所といわれるのも納得の神々しさがある。
14基目の「天の岩門（あまのいわと）」。宮崎県の高千穂町にある天岩戸に似ていることから名づけられ、見る場所によって印象ががらりと変わる。
Aコースのラスト16基目は、天の岩門から約10分の「蛙石（かえるいし）」。形がカエルに似ているというのが由来。
